Our Center on Halsted community gathered together to celebrate Dr. King with acts of service throughout Chicagoland on January 15. Together, we must continue to carry on Dr. King’s legacy of activism and empowerment 365 days a year. He defined how our actions determine the future and his example continues to lead us. Whether you volunteer, participate in programs, or are simply a shoulder for someone to lean on, your actions make a difference.

We are at the intersections as an LGBTQ community. We all share common histories and have been impacted by good and bad. Undeniably, Black culture shapes the City of Chicago and Black LGBTQ individuals are an integral part of that narrative. Center on Halsted is hosting and launching a series of programs in February for Black History Month. The At the Intersections series highlights Black LGBTQ life, and it speaks to Black queer individuals across neighborhood lines. As Dr. King shared with us, “Almost always, the creative dedicated minority has made the world better.”

Please join me to build community by taking steps to help bridge some of boundaries which divide the Black LGBTQ population in Chicago.
